Early Weaning Support Group for Mothers

Coping with the undesired, or premature ending to one's breastfeeding journey.

  • 45 US dollars
  • Virtual

Service Description

Weaning or stopping breastfeeding your child can be a highly emotional event in a mother’s life. While the reasons for doing so may vary from practical challenges (such as returning to work, pumping fatigue, difficulties latching, bottle preference) to mental challenges (exhaustion, isolation, body image issues, postpartum depression, anxiety related to infant weight gain, and more), the bottom line is: breastfeeding challenges can feel gut-wrenching for many, and coping with the end of your breastfeeding journey is not something women should be left to do alone. Partners may often not fully comprehend the psychological and emotional challenges that come with having to (or deciding to) wean prematurely. Breastfeeding, in our culture, often represents the ultimate bonding experience between mother and child. Having to let go of that earlier than anticipated or earlier than the mother is ready can bring on much emotional pain. This group seeks to address this emotional pain and provide a safe space to process these very real emotional challenges. - Group is led by a licensed New York state psychotherapist specializing in maternal mental health - Meetings are virtual (we use the GoogleMeet platform) and are 1 hour long - Fee: $45 - Maximum of 7 attendees per meeting - This group is drop-in, meaning you don’t have to attend every week. Feel free to join as you need it. - A minimum of 3 attendees must be enrolled for the group to take place, otherwise the meeting will be canceled that week and your money refunded. You may also opt to postpone your registration and join at a later date. You decide! - Turning the camera on is encouraged. - Babies are welcome! (and so are pets.) - Some insurances may offer partial reimbursement for group sessions. I can provide a superbill upon request which you can submit to your insurance company if you wish to try and claim reimbursement. As an out-of-network practitioner, I do not work with insurances directly. I do not guarantee that our group sessions will be eligible for reimbursement.
